WOODGLEN PARK
Little Rock, Arkansas
The Past
Woodglen Park is located in an upper middle income residential area of Little Rock that has been mostly built out over the last twenty plus
years. The thirty four acres on the south side of the ridge between Overlook Park and Foxcroft that is now Woodglen Park was first platted
to have 44 lots in1966. However, it remained undeveloped until purchased in 2006 by Natural Environments, Inc.(NEI), (William Ball and Marcie Heien).

The Plan

NEI, (Developer) re-platted the original plat to 35 large lots and reduced paved surfaces from almost 9 acres to 5.6 acres. Assurances dictating energy efficient design and construction along with a requirement that each home produce 50% of its projected electrical usage were included in the revised plan.
Woodglen Park is unique in that it is the first and only solar electric neighborhood in the state and public demand for sustainable development is soaring. Recent state incentives for solar energy increase the value of these homes. The close in location adds to the appeal of the development and represents the last undeveloped land in the area.
The Progress

With the help of over 20,000 pounds of high explosives, much hard work and almost two years time, residential lots are now available, ranging in price from $125,000 to $150,000. To date, three homes have been completed and a fourth home is just getting underway.

The Performance

Shown below, NEI has designed and built two of the homes so far completed in Woodglen Park. The one on the left is 3200 sq. ft. and has been occupied since April of 2009 by a family of three. The highest electric bill to date has been $60.00 (July 2009) and in March of this year the bill was $12.00. This April the solar system generated 63 kWh more energy than the home used for a carry over credit and the bill was $7.00. The home has averaged a total electric usage of about 900kWh per month and the 5.4 kW PV system has been making about 65% of the home's electricity over the first year. The home rated a 22 on the Energy Star HERS evaluation, the best rating ever given to a home in Arkansas. The home on the right is 4300 sq. ft. and has an 8.4 kW PV system. It is being occupied in May, 2010.
